Duties and Responsibilities:

This post is located in the Office of Co-Prosecutor. Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Co-Prosecutor the International Legal Consultant will carry out the following responsibilities:

• Assist in the analysis of evidence
• Drafting of final submissions and arguments in Cases 2-2, 3 and 4.
• Assist in the drafting of legal pleadings in all cases
• Assist in the management of the disclosure of evidence across all cases.

Competencies:

PROFESSIONALISM: knowledge of international criminal proceedings and instruments, with exposure to the Civil Law system being particularly valuable; experience in applying legal expertise to analyzing and resolving a diverse range of legal issues and problems; Sound judgment in dealing with sensitive and complex legal issues; Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations; Takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.

TECHNOLOGICAL AWARENESS: Keeps abreast of available technology; understands applicability and limitation of technology to the work of the office; actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks; shows willingness to learn new technology.

Required Skills and Experience:

Education:
University degree in law or related field.

Years of Professional Experience:
Minimum one year work experience in legal practice with an international or internationalized tribunal in an analytical, legal drafting and coordinating role. A substantial understanding of the evidence relating to the alleged crimes committed during the Khmer Rouge period and the legal procedure at the ECCC.

Languages:
The official working languages of the ECCC are Khmer, English and French. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.

Other Skills:
Significant fact analysis and legal drafting experience in cases dealing with mass crimes, a solid understanding of electronic analysis and document management systems such as case map and zylab; good organizational and communication skills with proven ability to co-ordinate work and supervise legal interns; and a high standard of written English is an asset.

Remuneration: 
USD 3,000.00 per month worked
